Woman's Show: Charity of Choice spotlight

At every Calgary Woman’s Show, one special organization is named the Charity of Choice. This season, our official Charity of Choice is the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter!
Since 1973, the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter has been helping women with children fleeing family violence by housing them in its 50-bed emergency shelter. Once inside the shelter, counsellors and nurse practioners help to make sure women and their families feel safe and supported.
“We are so proud to have the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter as our Charity of Choice,” says show director Terra Connors. “In exchange for some volunteer help at the show, we will be donating $600 to the shelter as well as a free exhibitor booth.”
As Charity of Choice, the primary goal is to focus on family violence prevention and promote the shelter’s services, says Caitlin Simpson with the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
“We really want to get the word out,” Simpson says. “We want to let people know that we are more than a shelter, that we have all these programs and that we’re able to help in a variety of ways. Being Charity of Choice, I think it will just amplify that message and we’re super excited.”
